To book, or not to book? That is the question.

In recent weeks we at Telegraph Travel have been grappling with this very question, exploring how the vaccine rollout could reboot travel, and asking the all-important question of whether our summer holidays can go ahead after lockdown.

But we want to know what you, our Telegraph readers, believe on this matter. Is it right to be travelling during a pandemic, at all? Will you be bagging a travel bargain, while holiday firms try to lure in customers? And where do you dream of going?

Below, we take a look at what you have told us so far.

We are booked on two cruise type holidays in May (one a walking cruise and one a bird watching cruise), both sailing around the UK and Ireland. We booked these both before Covid and the first lockdown came into force so have not rushed into booking them recently. We will not cancel them because we have a glimmer of hope they may go ahead, especially with the vaccination programme going so well. Last year (2020) we lost 3 major holidays, so whilst awaiting to see if the May holidays do go ahead, we won't be booking anything new for the foreseeable.

Why does a holiday mean going abroad? There are so many wonderful places to see in Britain and not just the "usual suspects". For example the coast and countryside east of Middlesbrough (Saltburn is delightful), the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire, the Essex / Suffolk border, the Staffordshire Moorlands, Exmoor, the Dark Peak, the Brecon Beacons, mid Dorset, North Nottinghamshire & Sherwood Forest, the list goes on. Beautiful scenery, historic towns and no crowds.

Anybody booking for an overseas leisure trip in 2021 could be best described as incurably optimistic. It is going to be the end of the year before most first world countries are fully vaccinated and well into next year before the world is.

I had 5 of the best holidays of my life last year. Paris in July, Switzerland and Venice in August, Rome in September, Greece in late September. Just be a bit persistent and you will be greatly rewarded. And remember – once you get to the airport, there is the glorious sensation of being surrounded by people who are not pathologically afraid.

Stop this about booking holidays. It's a nonsense. No holidays should be being booked until there is near 100% confidence on no lockdowns and even then it should just be UK only. No international holidays... full stop. Going abroad will just keep bringing the virus back into this country. It's not the end of the world if you can't lay on a Spanish beach (or whatever) for one year!

As a trained epidemiologist there is no chance of any ' back to normal' early, mid or maybe even late 2021. Boris will continue to aim for popularity , dropping happy bombs that enthuse the gullible and ignore the science. We have a very long way to go with this virus and the multiple variants that are emerging.

I have booked Seychelles for June, Dubai in September, Abu Dhabi for New Years Eve and the Maldives for April 2022, all at well below usual prices. Cancellation is free with Travelrepublic and BA have been very flexible with the trips I have had to cancel. There are quite a few bargains to be had.

Based on last year, I would be loathe to commit to anything before July. Having said that, I have carried over a booking for a rare public sailing on the PS Piemonte on Lake Maggiore originally scheduled for June 2020 and now for 05 June 2021. I give myself a 50% chance of it working out.

We are booked on a Cunard voyage to St Petersburg and back late June. Deposit paid, and balance due mid February. Should we pay the balance ?

Having travelled 15 return trips since March, I don't understand your attitude. 10 of them were for business, and the other 5 involved very little risk – I'd rather be on a plane than a bus. My travel insurance does cover Covid, and the better airlines such as Emirates offer Covid cover free of charge.

We’ve booked early, never mind late! Italy for the end of July 2021 – no charge on the property until 5 days before we travel and free cancellation up to 2 days before. At worst we lose the cost of the flights – £700 for 4 people. We held onto our July bookings in 2020 in the belief we’d make it, which we did. At the moment having something like this to look forward to is pretty important.

We have seized the moment and booked long haul flights for September – the airline will allow date changes up to December 2022. And we have booked first class (for less than £675 pp each way) something we never imagined we would be able to afford! We have both had Covid-19 this time last year, confirmed with antibody blood tests in September.

We've booked two caravan slots but with the sluggishness of vaccinations in our area (we haven't started the over 80s!) It would seem that we as over 70s will not be "clear", after the 12 week gap and three week follow up until mid to late June.

I have an 18 day trip to Cuba booked for May. If I can, I intend to travel many times this year the year, but accept that maybe May will be the first for 2021. Ready though to book in April if restrictions are relaxed sooner. I have been reading Lonely Plants ‘Where to travel when’ for inspiration.

Nothing booked as of yet. I will only book last minute to go to South Africa to see family and friends. I should have gone in November last year to celebrate a big birthday! I'm desperate to get to Scotland first though, to see my baby grandson - now 18 months. Being a “WhatsApp” grandma is no substitute!
