You’d be hard-pressed not to notice that as a nation we seem to have collectively taken up ‘making things from scratch’ during the coronavirus lockdown.

From making sourdough to baking banana bread, our social media timelines are awash with photos of homemade goods and our homes filled with the smell of fresh cooking.

Though we can make lots of things with just our bare-hands and a good dollop of elbow-grease, when it comes to making pasta we might need a little help.

Making pasta has become one of the most popular examples of the ‘making things from scratch’ era we are currently in, partly due to the fact that for a while the supermarkets had completely run out, but also because it’s fun.

Fresh pasta is easy to make, needs few ingredients and tastes delicious as a salad at lunch or as a hot dish, layered with tomato sauce, cream and cheese for dinner.

It’s little surprise then that a little while ago, John Lewis completely sold-out of their pasta maker.

And it’s little wonder, given that it only costs £35 (much less than the average pasta-making gadget) and can be delivered straight to your door within five days.

Buy it: Pasta Machine | £35 from John Lewis & Partners

This particular pasta machine can make a variety of pasta, including spaghetti, fettuccine and sheets for ravioli, with nine thickness settings for kneading and rolling.

Simply clamp it to your work surface and follow the straight-forward instructions.

If you do fancy yourself a bowl of fresh ravioli though, we recommend moving fast as the gadget is already a best-seller again.

Trust us, it’s worth every penne.
