John Lewis has announced its first ever 'colour of the year' – meet Damson. The gorgeous new plum shade is set to become your latest homeware obsession, and it's the perfect hue to add into your home this autumn/winter.

Taking inspiration from paint brands Dulux and Farrow & Ball, who always release their 'colour of the year', the department store has created its own slant on the popular trend and created a new shade that's available exclusively in some of its fabulous homeware, home accessories and serveware this season.

The retailer has also collaborated with some of your favourite brands, including Roberts, Le Creuset, Kartell and more, to create the perfect Damson products.

To announce the exciting news, John Lewis took to Instagram to share a sneak peak of some of the new colour in action in one of its show rooms.

In a caption for the video, the high street giant described Damson as "rich and cocooning", and we agree. It's an opulent, luxurious hue and the ideal deep red/purple tone for adding stylish depth to your home.

Once viewed as a bold choice for interiors, John Lewis has explained in its caption how to make sure that Damson doesn't dominate your space.

One of the colourways the brand suggests pairing it with is warm, grounding neutrals; they will immediately help to create more of a cosy, considered vibe in any bedroom or living room.

If you'd prefer to give your home an earthier, more calming feel, John Lewis suggests pairing Damson with soft sage greens.

For a "surprising yet contemporary" look, the brand recommends teaming their 'colour of the year' with a fresh sky blue. We think this palette would be a great choice for a home office, allowing your mind to relax and ideas to flow.

Or, of course, you could commit to tonal purples for that "full on damson-drench". Go on, give it a go, particularly if you have a dining room where you always host Christmas dinner.

Whether you're keen to incorporate this trending shade into your home or are looking for the perfect Christmas gift for a homeware lover, we've picked out our favourite pieces from John Lewis' new Damson range here"
