Of all the traditional Christmas activities, decorating the Christmas tree has got to be one of the most memorable - from throwing around garish rainbow-coloured tinsel when we were toddlers to creating classy colour schemes now.

But now, thanks to a new tree-decorating service by John Lewis, people in London can now have a Christmas tree and decorations delivered to their home before having it all put together for them by a ‘tree stylist’.

Customers will be advised on this year’s festive trends, and what sort of colour and style might best suit their home.

Prices begin at £450 - the stylist’s home visit for £250 and a £200 tree and decoration delivery service charge - and you can choose from a selection of both fake and real trees.

Starting from today, Londoners can book a free Christmas consultation appointment at the store’s Oxford Street or Sloane Square branch, and the appointments begin on December 1.

Anna Rigby, head of buying for home and gift accessories, told the Evening Standard: “It is a premium service but having somebody take the weight of Christmas decorating off your mind is something special.

“We want to make Christmas as easy as possible for our customers.”

There’s no doubt that having a Christmas tree delivered and decorated by John Lewis would make Christmas ‘easier’, but on the other hand, so would having someone wrapping and opening all of your presents for you.

In other words, it may make things more convenient - and certainly more Instagrammable - but where’s the fun in that?
