Over a year ago, as we headed into the first lockdown unaware of what lay ahead, our home offices were somewhat ramshackle.

Many of us set up camp at the dining room table, while others made do with our laps. We used cushions, stools and books to balance our laptops on and then cleared it all away at the weekend to bake banana bread.

Since then, our home offices have improved somewhat. With home working now looking to be a bigger part of our future than we first imagined, we've invested - bit by bit - in gadgets and furniture to help us make the most of our space.

But one thing many of us are still struggling with is finding the perfect office chair - we have a new-found appreciation for the seating arrangements at our offices.

Thankfully, John Lewis has come up with the Murray Ergonomic Office Chair, it's ideal for working from home and, unsurprisingly, has been racking up the reviews. In fact, it has become so popular it has only just come back in stock after selling out online.

Why we rate it:

Designed for both comfort and support, this chair boasts a mesh backrest to offer lumbar support and is height-adjustable so you can set it up to suit your proportions.

It looks pretty smart, will certainly jazz up our home office and, we would argue best of all, it allows you to swivel - finally!

What the reviews say:

  • "I was so unsure about ordering this as it was more than I had wanted to spend, but I'm so glad I did. I wanted something ergonomic and this is perfect. The lumbar support is amazing, you can adjust the height and amount of support. I'm quite short (5'3) so was concerned the base of the seat would be too big but it's perfect. My partner has tried it too and also finds it very comfortable. Well worth the money, and rolls well on the carpet."

  • "So glad I waited for this, so comfortable, great quality for the price, would highly recommend."

  • "Very comfortable for office work, a good price and well designed. Recommended."

  • "I bought this to enable me to work comfortably at my home desk as my previous chair had been too low and was causing issues. The chair is very easy and quick to assemble, I only needed another person to assist for one part of the assembly process."

  • "Very easy to assemble, multifunctional, comfortable chair. Truly ergonomic with a unique seating material that allows the body to breathe."
