Stop right there! Because John Lewis has finally released its Christmas advert for 2021, and it's everything we could have imagined and more.

Launching a week earlier than usual, John Lewis' Christmas advert marks the very beginning of the shopping season, and each year goes on to introduce characters from all walks of life. Back in 2014, they brought Monty the Penguin to our screens, and in 2019 the entire nation obsessed over Excitable Edgar (the adorable dragon).

And this year, it's schoolboy Nathan and alien teen Skye.

Titled "The Unexpected Guest," viewers can watch as a spaceship crash-lands on earth, following a heartwarming story between two characters, played alongside a cover of 'Together in Electric Dreams' by Lola Young, a 20 year old singer-songwriter from South London.

The official press release reads, "We take viewers on a magical Christmas journey, all through the eyes of the lead characters, a young boy called Nathan and the space traveller, Skye. Nathan discovers and befriends Skye, who has landed in the woods beside his home.

"Their friendship develops as Nathan introduces Skye to many of his family’s festive traditions and brings them to life for her in the woods. They decorate the tree with fairy lights, celebrate the tradition of eating and hosting together, as he encourages her to try her first mince pie, and he also introduces her to the joy of thoughtful gifting by giving her his Christmas jumper.

"Through these shared moments, we see the magic of Christmas through the eyes of someone who has never experienced it before."

And the best part? A 10% share from sales of the Christmas jumper featured in the ad will go to FareShare and Home-Start UK, the same charities that benefited from last year’s Give a Little Love campaign.
