They're going to do WHAT?!
Iconic American President John F. Kennedy's hair to enter into orbit? Bees that can dance? And TWO Loch Ness Monsters? These are the weirdest stories from around the world this past week...© BANG Showbiz - 2/11
Bees like to boogey
Bees teach their younglings how to dance. Scientists have revealed how baby bees are taught the 'waggle dance' by their elders so they can signal to their nestmates where the best food is. The dance is a form of complex communication where the insects circle around in figure-eight patterns at a rapid pace and translates vital information about food - including direction, distance, type and quality of the meal. Boffins had previously thought the routine was innate to bees but have now learned that it is picked up through experience. James Nieh, a professor of ecology, behaviour and evolution at the University of California San Diego, said: "We are beginning to understand that, like us, animals can pass down information important for their survival through communities and families. "Our new research shows that we can extend such social learning to include insects."©BANG Showbiz - 3/11
Putin uses body doubles?
A former KGB spy has alleged that Vladimir Putin is using body doubles. Sergei Zhirnov claims to have served alongside the Russian President in the KGB intelligence service of the former Soviet Union and is convinced that the tyrant is using body doubles in a bid to hide his weakening control in the Kremlin. The spy had previously believed that speculation that Putin was using doppelgangers were "conspiracy theories" but has changed his mind after witnessing a speech by a "skinny" Putin last month and contrasting it with an appearance at a concert in support of the Ukraine war the following day as evidence. The theory that Putin is using body doubles has also been backed by the head of Ukrainian military intelligence. Major General Kyrylo Budanov claimed that Kyiv has detected Putin body doubles on a number of "special occasions" in the past, but it has now become "usual practice".(c) BANG Showbiz - 4/11
Flies can't get frisky...
Air pollution is ruining flies' sex lives, new research has claimed. Male fruit flies exposed to pollution struggle to recognise insects of the opposite sex and show an interest in other males instead. Females flies were found to be less attracted to males exposed to ozone pollution and are much slower to respond to attempts at courtship. Study author Professor Bill Hansson, of the Max Planck Centre on Next Generation Insect Chemical Ecology, said: "Insects and their pheromones have evolved over millions of years. "In contrast, the concentration of air pollutants has only increased dramatically since industrialisation. "It is unlikely that the communication systems of insects, which have evolved over the course of evolution, will be able to adapt to new conditions within a short period of time if pheromones are suddenly no longer there. "The only solution to this dilemma is to immediately reduce pollutants in the atmosphere."©BANG Showbiz - 5/11
Dogs like to rock
Pets have different musical tastes. A new study has found that our animal friends display excited behaviour when certain genres of music are played, just as human beings do. The results found that over a third of dogs go barking mad for rock, 30 per cent of cats love classical music, while 40 per cent of hamsters enjoy hip-hop beats. Rebecca Downes Music, which conducted the poll of 2,000 Brits, said: "It's official - pets love music as much as humans do and different animals have their favourite genres they react to. "Some dance around, some jump up and down or simply get over-excited - just like humans."©BANG Showbiz - 6/11
Aliens are already among us!
A growing number of humans think that they are aliens living on Earth. The group, known as starseeds, claim to have been sent from space to guide mankind into a "golden age" of prosperity and happiness. Starseeds are able to communicate using 'light language', which goes beyond human limitations and speaks to a person's soul. Telltale signs for members of the group are feeling a lack of belonging, being spiritual, believing in karma and searching for meaning in life. Starseeds often get overwhelmed and unwind by spending time alone. Experts from Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Huddersfield said: "Starseeds believe they have reawakened from another planet to be born here. They believe they can transport between galaxies via meditation."Photo by Randy Shropshire/Getty Images for A+E Networks - 7/11
Eat animal testicles to stay strong!
Bear Grylls stays healthy by eating animal testicles. The TV adventurer has explained the health benefits of eating animal organs such as liver, heart and testicles having previously lived as a vegan. The 48-year-old star says that his diet is built around "grass-fed, good quality" red meat, raw dairy and fruit as well as organs but he steers clear of bread and pasta and avoids processed foods. Grylls said in an online video: "The way I build all of my meals is around... good quality red meat. I always throw in a bit of liver as well every few days." The former soldier added: "We need more organs than just liver. "We should be eating pancreas and heart and testicles. All that is so good ancestrally and naturally."©BANG Showbiz - 8/11
A Mediterranean diet stops dementia
A Mediterranean diet can slash the risk of dementia by a quarter. New data suggests that eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, olive oil and seafood may have a "protective effect" against dementia, irrespective of a person's genetic risk of developing the condition. The promising early findings could pave the way for new preventive treatments if further research is able to validate the results. Study co-author Dr. Janice Ranson, a senior research fellow at the University of Exeter, said: "The findings from this large population-based study underscore the long-term brain health benefits of consuming a Mediterranean diet, which is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. "The protective effect of this diet against dementia was evident regardless of a person's genetic risk, and so this is likely to be a beneficial lifestyle choice for people looking to make healthy dietary choices and reduce their risk of dementia."©BANG Showbiz - 9/11
TWO Loch Ness Monsters?
There could be two Loch Ness Monsters lurking in Scottish waters. Extraordinary new footage shows a huge black shape moving around the loch before two humps emerge and Nessie fanatic Eoin O'Faodhagain thinks that it is evidence that a pair of the legendary monsters exist. O'Faodhagain - who has spent years hunting for Nessie and keeps watch on the water from his home in Ireland - said: "It is obvious that the two Nessie-like humps are moving over a two-minute period, and the larger hump of the two has changed position from the smaller one. "Given the fact that there is no disturbance of water visible between objects you would have to concur they are two separate moving creatures."©BANG Showbiz - 10/11
Gorillas can go far out, man
Gorillas are able to spin themselves into a trance. A new study has revealed that the apes are able to match the speeds of professional dancers and scientists suggest that they are trying to reach an "altered mental state". Experts at the universities of Birmingham and Warwick analysed 40 videos of gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans and found that the animals typically completed 5.5 spin circles three times in a row. The researchers theorised that spinning was a primitive behaviour used by human ancestors to tap into alternative states of consciousness. Dr. Adriano Lameira, who co-led the study, said: "Spinning alters our state of consciousness, it messes up our body-mind responsiveness and coordination, which made us feel sick, lightheaded, and even elated as in the case on children playing in merry-go-rounds, spinner-wheels, and carousels. "The parallel between what the apes were doing and what humans do was beyond coincidental."©BANG Showbiz - 11/11
A President to boldly go...
John F. Kennedy's hair is to be blasted into space. DNA samples from four US presidents - including JFK, George Washington, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan - will be launched above Earth later this year on "humanity's first deep-space time capsule". The Houston memorial spaceflight company Celestis, Inc. is behind the space launch, which will contain the cremated remains of over 200 people - including 'Star Trek' creator Gene Roddenberry. The presidential hair samples come from the late celebrity hair collector Louis Mushro and have been gifted to Celestis by an anonymous donor for the purpose of the deep-space mission.©BANG Showbiz
