John Boyega: The Greatest Fits

Star Wars and 'stylish' don’t often crop up in the same sentence. Star Wars and blasters do. And Star Wars and Baby Yoda. Stylish, though? Not in this galaxy.

But that has started to change a little, and we've John Boyega to thank for this development. Over the course of the last five years, we’ve watched the Brit mature from a young menswear Padawan into Jedi material thanks to big coats and slim-cut suits. Here, we take a look back at some of the actor's greatest fits.

This traditional West African robe is called an agbada, and it can now be added to the ever-growing list of Boyega's best-style moments thanks to punchy cobalt blue with the shine of gold embroidery.

A short time ago in a city not that far away (New York, to be precise), Boyega cemented himself as a true king of statement outerwear in a Sies Marjan overcoat, and matching boots, because tonal.

Cool and cosy aren't mutually exclusive things. Not according to Boyega in his oversized Moncler quilted coat and all-black everything else.

Not everything in the big (and ongoing) Nineties revival was good: JNCO jeans, Billy Ray Cyrus’ mullet, Limp Bizkit. This Coogi jumper, however, is good. Really good, in fact, and almost bold enough to divert attention from the Carter. Almost.

Boyega’s three key steps to tonal-dressing success:

1) Create contrast through texture

2) Generate a focal point by way of a well-placed necklace

3) Smile, you look great.

It’s not easy to stand out in the same room as Jared Leto brandishing a waxwork of his own severed head. Still, somehow Boyega managed it (albeit for very, very different reasons) when he served us this two-tone black-tie look at 2018’s Met Gala.
