From a glittering career that saw him starring in some of the BBC's biggest shows, Doctor Who and Torchwood, and landing a spot on the judging panel of flagship ITV show Dancing on Ice, John Barrowman had a very abrupt fall from grace. He was, in his words, “blackballed” after accusations of flashing on the set of Doctor Who.

After the accusations came to a head in 2021, John has struggled to get any work since and has rarely appeared back on TV. Now, in a tell-all interview with WalesOnline which you can read here, John said he is "disgusted" by how the stars and crew of Doctor Who and Torchwood treated him.

He said: "I’m disgusted at the way my Doctor Who and Torchwood family turned their backs on me – 99% of the things that were said about me were bulls*** and I’m under the impression that the person who started it all, the journalists who ran with it and the online judge and jury who think they can say what they like, seem to have a privilege to ruin someone’s life and career. No one was offended, no one was upset. It was created by ‘a source’.

"It was crap. I ended up being good clickbait and it has lasted for three years. It’s been devastating – to the point I was blackballed. I can’t get into a room for an audition or a meeting anymore.

"That’s why I’ve decided to talk about it and lay it bare on stage because it’s quite disgusting how people have treated me. I have always been upfront and honest and talked about everything and for people to take that and manipulate it is disgusting. Only the truth comes out of my mouth."

John is now embarking on a new tour, called Laid Bare which has several stops in Wales, to talk about his experience. He said: "For Laid Bare I really wanted to get around Wales and do some of the regional theatres and feel closer to the audience.

"Laid Bare is exactly that – we’re stripping it back. You’re going to be entertained, going to learn things about me you might not expect me to talk about. I think it will catch people by surprise a little bit." For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter.
