Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has issued his praise over Tottenham’s signing of James Maddison.
Spurs are off to a flyer this season, winning two of their first three games, now on back-to-back wins after seeing off Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon. New signing Maddison scored the opener, with Dejan Kulisevski scoring the second, and there suddenly an air of confidence around Ange Postecoglou’s men, despite the loss of Harry Kane.
It looks as though Tottenham may have pulled off some smart business during the summer, and there still could be a big striker signing to come.
Maddison was one of the signings, arriving on a £40million deal from Leicester City. The England midfielder has been linked with a big move for years, and he is now testing himself near the top of the Premier League table, already showing signs of taking the step up in his stride.
The midfielder turned home the opener on the South Coast, and that was after former Chelsea and England winger Cole had dubbed him ‘the best signing of the summer’.
Cole told TNT Sports: “The more I think about it he could be the best signing of the summer. I am so excited for him, especially the way Ange plays.”
“Ange giving him the vice captain shows how astute and clever he is. James is a leader. Look at the players that have played that position at Spurs, [Glenn] Hoddle, [Paul] Gascoigne, [Luka] Modric.”
Peter Crouch added: “You have to manage him. He’s a confident lad. Giving him responsibility is the right call.”
