Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page has dropped the biggest hint yet that the comedy will return to our screens - suggesting that the show should come back for one more episode.

In what could be the news that saves 2020, Joanna, who plays Stacey, admitted a return to Barry and Billericay might just be on the cards, because there are too many loose ends to be tied up.

So it's up to writers Ruth Jones (who plays Nessa) and James Corden (who plays Smithy) to make Joanna's dream come true.

“As a fan, surely they’ve got to do another one,” Joanna told The Sun. “I don’t think we’d ever do another series because I don’t think we could get everyone together for long enough, but I can’t imagine they could leave it the way they did. One more special, then done.”

Last year's early-awaited Christmas special was the most-watched Christmas show of the decade, with over 11.6 million viewers. The one-off ended with Nessa proposing to Smithy, but we don't know whether he said yes.

Despite Joanna's hopes, Ruth may have other plans - and they don't involve resurrecting Gavin & Stacey.

As if that's not sad enough news, Ruth hinted that she thinks last year's Christmas special ended perfectly and that maybe we don't actually need to know whether Smithy said yes to Nessa's proposal.

"I do think the Christmas special, the joy of our last special is that it ended in such a way that if we never go back to Barry, we will always wonder what happened," she admitted on This Morning last month (November).

Christmas miracles do happen, so we're crossing everything.
