Jewellery-making competition All That Glitters reveals its winner
It’s been a captivating six episodes of creative viewing, but last night the All That Glitters: Britain's Next Jewellery Star Season 2 winner was finally announced. The BBC jewellery-making competition presented by comedian Kathryn Ryan saw eight contestants compete in the craft challenge TV show where each week designers are set gruelling jewellery making challenges.
Last night’s tense viewing saw finalists Piers Carpenter, Emma White and Jack Mitchell battle it out in two closing challenges to dazzle the judges for the last time.
The first task for the Best-Seller Challenger was designing and making a sapphire engagement ring followed by a commission for Strictly Come Dancing’s Head Judge Shirley Ballas – to make her a show-stopping necklace to wear for this Sunday’s first results show.
After much deliberation from Judges Shaun Leane and Dinny Hall who awarded Emma the winner of both finale challenges, it was Piers who took the crown of Britain’s Next Jewellery Star for his consistent performance across the series.
Shaun described the last few weeks as a “rollarcoaster of excitement, creativity and craft”, which is why they had to look back at each contestant’s body of work.
Dinny said of Piers' work: “I see a level of sophistication throughout and I can see his signature.”
Shaun added: “You came here with classic thinking, fine craftsmanship and you’ve pushed yourself, I can see a star bring born in the industry.”
Piers who trained as a goldsmith and has worked a jewellery designer since 2011 was stunned by the result, shedding tears while he proclaimed: “I’m actually lost for words, I’m honoured, it means so much, I put everything I had into it.”
Support from viewers came flooding in on Twitter congratulating Piers and the achievements of the other contestants.
