Jesy Nelson has spoken out for the first time since she announced she was leaving Little Mix earlier this week. On Monday, after taking a break from the band the previous month, Jesy revealed she had made the difficult to decision to leave the group for good in order to focus on her mental health.

Returning to social media for the first time since she released the statement, Jesy thanked her loyal fans for their "love and support".

Writing on Instagram Stories, the singer said, "I just want to say thank you so much to everyone of you that has shown me so much love and support over the past few days. Some of your messages have made me feel so emotional and I appreciate it so much. Love you all."

Last month, it was announced Jesy was taking a break from the band while she recovered from illness. A spokesperson revealed the news at the time, telling fans "Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons".

She also pulled out of the final of Little Mix: The Search and presenting the MTV European Music Awards alongside her bandmates Leigh-Anne, Perrie and Jade.

In a heartfelt statement shared on Monday, Jesy thanked her fans and bandmates for making the past nine years "the most incredible time of my life".

"I can't thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never forget it," she said.

"The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard. There comes a time in life where we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process."

Perrie, Jade, and Leigh-Anne also released a statement, saying, "We love her very much and agree that it is so important that she does what is right for her mental health and wellbeing. We are still very much enjoying our Little Mix journey and the 3 of us are not ready for it to be over."

We continue to wish Jesy all the best as she plans her new life away from the band.
