Jesy Nelson enjoyed the process of making a music video for the first time with Boyz as she wasn't comparing herself to anybody else.

The singer, who quit Little Mix in December last year, releases her debut solo single Boyz, which features Nicki Minaj, on Friday, and as she discussed making the promo for the track on Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast, she revealed she was able to enjoy herself on a music video set for the first time as she didn't compare herself anybody else like she used when she appeared alongside Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall.

"I'll never sit and lie and be like, ‘Oh, I'm so happy now, I don't have any insecurities,’ as that's an absolute lie, I still have my insecurities, I still have my struggles," she began. "I guess the thing that I'm better with now, is that I see little things now when I do a music video, I'm not looking on the camera and thinking, ‘Oh my God, I don't look as skinny as Jade, (Leigh-)Anne and Perrie...’ And that's what I did every single day, and for the first time ever, I did my music video and I enjoyed it. I absolutely loved it and I was like, ‘This is the feeling I should have had the whole time.’”

She added that being constantly compared to her three bandmates was "draining" and she quit the band partly because she "couldn't deal with it anymore".

The 30-year-old noted that being unhappy within the band wasn't good for or her bandmates so leaving was the best decision for everybody.

"It wasn't nice for Jade, (Leigh-)Anne and Perrie to be around when I was so down, they were living their dream and I wasn't... I felt very miserable and trapped and I knew that, that wasn't right," she shared.
