The high street has truly stepped up its beauty offering in recent years. From Zara’s excellent perfume range to cult skincare brands now available at Boots, you don’t have to search far, or spend a fortune, for high quality beauty products.

Now you can add yet another brand to your shopping list: Honest Beauty. Even if you’ve never heard of it, we bet you’re at least familiar with its founder, Hollywood actress Jessica Alba.

Honest Beauty launched five years ago in the US to great fanfare within the ‘green beauty’ community and Jessica's fanbase. It made its way to Boots last autumn with a range of skincare and makeup which includes moisturisers, cream blushers and lip crayons.

Here we run through everything you need to know about the Honest Beauty in the UK, and the products our beauty team think are worth trying.

What is Honest Beauty?

Honest Beauty is a wellness brand with homeware and children’s clothing in the US, but here in the UK, we’re getting a taste of the brand’s easy-to-use skincare and makeup that promises a naturally pretty glow.

Honest Beauty’s skincare is loaded with naturally-derived, skin soothers such as jojoba and green tea seed oil alongside brightening ingredients. Everything is formulated without SLS or synthetic fragrances.

Transparency is at the heart of the brand, every ingredient is clearly labelled and the brand's website clearly illustrates its manufacturing practices.

Who is Honest Beauty for?

Sometimes all we need are simple yet effective formulas to keep our skin balanced and happy. This is where Honest Beauty shines the brightest with beautiful textures and naturally-derived scents. That being said, do exercise caution if your complexion is sensitive to essential oils.

If you’re new to using products with botanical ingredients, Honest Beauty is a great place to start as the product selection is tightly edited (at least for now in Boots) and nothing costs more than £32.

What else should I know?

Lovely products aside, giving back makes up a big part of Honest Beauty’s ethos. The brand regularly donates diapers and basic necessities to low-income children and hygiene products to the homeless in the States.

What should I try from Honest Beauty in the UK?

Magic Beauty Balm

This multipurpose balm is Honest Beauty's hero product. Made with a blend of nourishing oils, it works hard to help hydrate dry patches, cuticles, lips and even tame flyaways. You can also use it on eyelids to create a simple glossy eye and on cheekbones for a healthy sheen. A handbag staple in our beauty team's eyes.

Creme Cheek Blush

A great cream blush should blend in seamlessly into skin, wear beautifully on top of foundation, and be pigmented enough for all skin tones. This one by Honest Beauty checks all the boxes and comes in four flattering shades.

Deep Hydration Face Cream

We love a moisturiser that keeps skin soft and plump without any dreaded greasiness, and we've found this one does exactly that. The creamy texture absorbs quickly to quench thirsty skin, leaving it prepped and ready for makeup. The gentle lavender scent is a pleasure to use in the evenings too.

Luminizing Powder

If its a lit-from-within glow you're after, try this illuminator on for size. The finely-milled, glitter-free powder imparts radiance without accentuating fine lines. Dusk (pictured) brings a hint of warmth while Midnight (pale champagne) gives a soft-focus highlight on cheekbones. It's gorgeous as a wash of subtle shimmer on eyelids, too.

Demi Matte Lip Crayon

This clever crayon nails the balance between colour and comfort with impressive pigment payoff in an intensely hydrating formula. Try Strawberry for a jolt of bold red or go natural with Honey. There's also a Lush Sheer version for a low-key, tinted lip.

There you have it, the five Honest Beauty products our beauty team love. Will you be trying any?
