Jeremy Scott is set to leave Moschino after a decade at the helm of the Italian fashion house. During his tenure, the designer brought a memorable tongue-in-cheek and kitsch humour to the brand's collections, and he leaves behind a "joyful" legacy, the company said in a statement today.

"These past 10 years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination," Scott said in a press release. "I am so proud of the legacy I am leaving behind."

On Instagram, he added that he had "had a blast creating designs that will live on forever" and said that he was "filled with excitement and anticipation" regarding what he had lined up next. Although he did not share any further details, he will likely now be able to focus more time on his own eponymous brand, which he launched back in 1997.

Moschino first appointed Scott in October 2013. He took over from Rossella Jardini, who had also served as creative director for almost a decade after the death of Franco Moschino in 1994.

Scott embraced the humour that Franco Moschino had instilled in his namesake label, creating over-the-top and kitsch collections, many of which were perfect for going viral and grabbing attention in the early days of Instagram. Some of his most memorable collections include his collaborations with McDonalds, My Little Pony, Spongebob and Barbie, as well as his very direct references to flower bouquets, dry-cleaning bags, paper dolls, cleaning products and chandeliers.

Meanwhile, his red-carpet designs were worn by the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid, Katy Perry, Lizzo and Khloe Kardashian.

"I am fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with the creative force that is Jeremy Scott. I would like to thank him for his 10 years of commitment to Franco Moschino's legacy house and for ushering in a distinct and joyful vision that will forever be a part of Moschino history," Massimo Ferretti, Aeffe S.P.A. chairman said today.

Scott showed his final collection for the house during Milan Fashion Week earlier this month. Moschino is yet to appoint a new creative director.
