Jennifer Lopez "was sad" not to receive an Oscar nomination for Hustlers
Jennifer Lopez has revealed that she "was sad" not to get an Oscar nomination for Hustlers.
The star, who played a veteran stripper in the critically-acclaimed film, was applauded for her performance and received awards buzz for her role, but was not nominated at the Academy Awards.
During Oprah Winfrey's 2020 Vision: Your Life In Focus Tour this weekend, Jennifer confessed that she "felt like I let everyone down".
"I was sad, I was a little sad because there was a lot of buildup to it. There were so many articles, I got so many good notices - more than ever in my career - and there was a lot of: 'She’s going to get nominated for an Oscar, it’s going to happen, if it doesn’t you’re crazy,'" Jennifer said. "I’m reading all the articles going: 'Oh my God, could this happen?' And then it didn’t and I was like: 'Ouch.' It was a little bit of a letdown," she recalled.
The actress continued: "Also I felt like my whole team - most of my team has been with me for years, 20, 25 years - and I think they had a lot of hopes on that and they wanted it too, so I felt like I let everyone down a little bit."
Lorene Scafaria’s film follows the story of down-on-her-luck New York stripper Destiny (Constance Wu), who makes friends with the club’s top-earning stripper, Ramona Vega, played by Lopez. When the Wall Street crash impacts their profits, they devise a plan to take their lives back. One iconic scene from the movie sees the 50-year-old actress perform a strip tease to Fiona Apple’s ‘Criminal’.
This weekend's appearance comes after Jennifer performed a dazzling Super Bowl halftime show earlier this month alongside Shakira. She took to the stage once again for Oprah's motivational event in California on Saturday wearing a canary yellow suit with gold heels. The star will next appear on screen in upcoming romantic comedy Marry Me based on a graphic novel of the same name.
