It's been a few months since 90s it-couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck tied the knot, two decades on from when they called off their initial engagement. To say that fans were happy about the reunion would be an understatement, as Bennifer stans praised the couple for getting back together after so long apart.
But, not everyone was on board, particularly when it came to Jennifer's decision to take her husband's surname. Yep, JLo technically is JAff now.
"I can’t believe JLo took Ben’s surname wtf?" one person tweeted in response to the move, with another adding: "Jennifer Lopez really changed her surname omg she didn't even bother hyphenating it." A third fan chimed into the conversation with, "Why the f**k isn't he changing his name to Ben Lopez??"
Now, Jennifer has spoken out about her reasons for changing her name. Warning: if you're a hopeless romantic, you might want a box of tissues for this. "People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together. We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem," the singer-slash-actor told Vogue.
When asked if she wanted Ben to be Mr. Lopez, Jennifer replied: "No! It’s not traditional. It doesn’t have any romance to it. It feels like it’s a power move, you know what I mean? I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person."
The Jenny From The Block singer went on, "I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s okay, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl."
So, there you have it!
