In the interview, Affleck cited being 'trapped' in his former marriage of 13 years as a contributing reason for his alcoholism.
Speaking to Howard Stern on the SiriusXM show earlier this month, the Gone Girl actor said if he was still married to Garner, he would 'probably still be drinking', and alluded to his marriage with the 13 Going on 30 star as being partly to blame for his unhealthy relationship with alcohol.
'I was like "I can't leave because of my kids, but I'm not happy. What do I do?" What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution,' Affleck said during the show.
Following the controversial interview, not only did he experience negative backlash for his less than flattering comments about Garner, but it led to speculation that Lopez was unhappy with him too.
Responding to the rumours, Lopez told People: 'This story is simply not true. It is not how I feel.'
The 'On My Way' singer, who formerly dated Affleck from 2002 to 2004 and was even engaged to the actor in the first year of their romance, added: 'I couldn't have more respect for Ben as a father, a co-parent, and a person.'
Appearing to confirm the false nature of claims that Lopez was upset with Affleck following the interview, a source close to the couple told People: '[They are] in a really great space and really happy.'
This comes after Affleck also addressed the backlash surrounding his controversial comments about Garner, with whom he shares three children, Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and son Samuel, nine.
On an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Affleck explained that he wouldn't want his children to think he would ever speak badly of their mother. He also said during an appearance on Good Morning America: 'The only biography that needs anything is written on the hearts of your kids.'
During the Kimmel interview, Affleck also stressed the extent to which he and Garner 'respect each other and cared about each other.'
Affleck, who has been in an out of rehab in the past due to alcoholism, also expressed feeling irked that, despite covering a range of topics during his interview with Stern, including parenthood, his comments about Garner have taken precedence.
When speaking to Kimmel about the aftermath of his interview with Stern, Affleck said: 'They said that blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism and that I was trapped in this marriage and just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid awful guy.'
During the Stern interview, as well as discussing the negative side of his former marriage, he also commended Garner, saying of their relationship: 'Fundamentally it was always underpinned with respect. I knew she was a good mum.'
As for Affleck and Lopez's romance, during his talk with Stern, the actor was seemingly honest in sharing his apprehensions about rekindling their romance, due to the potential impact their relationship might have on his children.
'I don't want to do anything that is painful or destructive to them if I can help it.'
But when reflecting on his and Lopez's newfound romance, he told the New York Times: 'She's the real thing. I keep in touch periodically with her and have a lot of respect for her. How awesome is it that she had her biggest hit movie at 50? That's f***ing baller.'
And just as Lopez has recently defended her feelings towards the Oscar-winning actor following the uproar of his recent interview, Affleck has also defended Lopez, who is a mother to twins Emme Maribel Muñiz and Maximilian David Muñiz.
While featuring on the Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast, Affleck referred to the time he and Lopez dated in the noughties, saying: 'People were so f***ing mean about her... Now it’s like, she’s lionised and respected for the work she did, where she came from, what she accomplished — as well she f***ing should be!'
Jennifer Garner is yet to address Affleck's recent comments.
