A few weeks ago, a fan's theory about the relationship between Joey and Rachel on Friends went viral. Writer @kaneandgriffen posted 100 tweets explaining why she thinks the couple should have ended up together on the show – and why Rachel's relationship with Ross was unhealthy. It made for pretty convincing reading, but not to Jennifer Aniston.

When asked in an interview this week if she thought the writer had a point, Aniston – who played Rachel on the show – was quick to disagree.

'No! No, no,' she said. 'They tried! I think there was a moment when Joey and Rachel got together that maybe it could happened, but it didn't. It was Ross and Rachel all the way.'

The actress – clearly feeling very passionate about the topic – went on to explain that the couple just would never have made it long term.

'I really believe that if there's an afterworld of Friends, they're still thriving,' she went on. 'Don't you? I just don't think Joey and Rachel could have made it. I think it was more physical than emotional with them. They were friends with benefits, and they left it at that.'

Well, there you have it.
