Jeffree Star on claims he's paying his new boyfriend to date him

Following his very public split in January 2020, Jeffree Star just went public with his new boyfriend on Instagram. But after some speculation from fans about whether the relationship was legit, the controversial YouTuber was forced to deny he was paying his new partner to date him. This is complex.

Rewind eight months and you might remember YouTube fans were shocked when Jeffree and Nathan Schwandt announced their split after five years together. The 34-year-old addressed speculation from fans at the time by sharing a picture of himself and captioning it: "We broke up... 💔 Sorry for the silence, I’ve been trying to heal 😰"

Since then, Jeffree spilled "the real tea" on the split, while Nate was rumoured to be dating someone else. Now, over half a year since they announced their break up, Jeffree has gone public with a new boyfriend.

Sharing a photo of him sat on a ~mysterious~ man's lap, the YouTuber wrote to his 14.7million followers, "Thankful for all the blessings God has brought into my life this year 💯🙏🏼"

Fans quickly identified the man from his tattoos as basketball player Andre Marhold, before questioning whether the relationship was real. Jeffree quickly hit back on his (now private) Twitter account, writing: "I know it’s devastating news for some people, but I don’t give money to anyone I’m dating or anyone who is f***ing me. Work on your own insecurities sis, I’m not the problem 💖"

He also spoke out about the new romance on Instagram Stories. "I’m living my life, and I’m actually genuinely happy," he said. "I know rumours and lies are entertaining…but just know that I am hanging out with someone amazing who is single and has been single for a while, so anything else you hear is a motherf**king lie."

Jefree added, "And I know it sounds entertaining, and I know everything is like a movie, and it’s all fun and crazy and sounds scandalous, it’s not. The real world ain’t that exciting, baby."
