What Jeans Are We Wearing Now? These 7 Trends Will Be Huge in 2024
A new year doesn't necessitate a full wardrobe overhaul, but it's only natural to want to make a little room in your closet for an item you've had your eye on or a trend that's speaking to you. For 2024, it seems shoppers are zeroing in on jeans for these sartorial refreshes: According to shopping app LTK, they were the third most-searched item on the platform during the first week of 2024 (preceded by "New Year's Eve Outfit" and "Wedding Guest Dresses").
Last year, form-fitting denim took a back seat to looser shapes, such as baggy low-rise jeans (a win for comfy dressers like myself), pocketed cargo pants and denim skirts. While these will roll over into 2024, there are a few other key players on the denim roster that feel particularly fresh.
You're probably already familiar with some of these trends, like dark-washed jeans or bleached white denim. Shoppers are still embracing loose silhouettes, as relaxed straight-leg, horseshoe and ultra-oversized jeans are on the rise.
See and shop seven of the biggest denim trends for 2024, below.
Barrel Leg Jeans
The barrel-leg silhouette has been steadily gaining traction for a while now, with nearly every leading name in denim putting their own spin on it. Though many may be apprehensive about the shape, I was pleasantly surprised by how versatile it is. (Plus, it's great for when you want to show off your footwear.)

Dark Wash Jeans
Dark denim is a classic, but jean-wearers are gravitating towards black and grey more and more: According to LTK, searches for "black jeans" and "grey denim" were up by 55% and 192%, respectively, the first week of the year; "dark denim" jumped 275% this month.

Relaxed Straight Jeans
In its 2024 Style Forecast, Stitch Fix wrote that its shoppers are "most excited to wear straight-leg jeans" this year. The style is timeless, with looser fits and worn-in washes providing extra "off-duty" energy.

Ultra Baggy Jeans
The super baggy look has gone high fashion as of late, as evidenced by Kylie Jenner's muddy Acne Studios campaign and Balenciaga's recent Hollywood runway.

White Jeans
White denim might feel seasonal, but who's to say it can't be a winter staple? Searches for "white jeans" on LTK rose by 182% since the ball dropped in Times Square, so it's a safe bet that they'll continue to go strong into 2024. And if pure white isn't for you, plenty of brands offer equally appealing cream and oatmeal shades.

Embellished Jeans
Allow whimsical embellishments — from studs to sequins to rhinestones — to dress up your everyday denim. Designers like Samaria Leah even revamp jeans with corsetry details.

Bootcut Jeans
Data from LTK indicates that "skinny flares" — which is just a different name for bootcut jeans — are making a comeback. Revive the '70s silhouette with dark, inky denim.
