Jared Leto dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld's cat Choupette for the 2023 Met Gala.

The actor/singer arrived at the steps of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night in the elaborate costume, which included a detailed headpiece that concealed his identity.

But midway up the steps, Leto removed the mask - revealing himself to a host of amused celebrities - including the likes of Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, and Lizzo.

The star has not yet detailed exactly why he decided to pay homage to Choupette, though the theme of this year's Met Gala was Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.

Choupette, a blue-cream tortie Birman cat, was famously pampered by Lagerfeld, and was almost always by his side up until the German designer's death at the age of 85 in 2019.

Following his head-turning entrance, the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman changed into a more comfortable outfit, comprised of a black cape, shirt, pleated skirt, and trousers.

But Leto, who is to play Lagerfeld in an upcoming biopic, wasn't the only celebrity in attendance to pay tribute to the fashion icon's pet as Doja Cat also opted for a feline-inspired ensemble.

The rapper/singer wore a stunning pearl-studded Oscar de la Renta gown featuring white feather train and topped off the look with impressive SFX makeup.
