Jamie-Lynn Spears has opened up about the part she had to play in sister Britney Spears' 13 year conservatorship, saying she "[understood] just as little about it then as I do now."

Speaking on Good Morning America the 30-year-old pointed out that she was aged just 17 (and "about to have a baby") when Britney was placed under the conservatorship. Since then, their close relationship has turned sour, with Britney publicly calling out her sister on numerous occasions. However, Jamie-Lynn maintains that she "doesn't know" what has caused the strain.

"I've always been my sister's biggest supporter so when she needed help I set up ways to do so," Jamie-Lynn told the show's presenter. "[I] went out of my way to make sure that she had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship and just end this all for our family."

She continued: "It wasn't about [whether or not I agreed] with the conservatorship; everyone has a voice and it should be heard so if she wanted to talk to other people then I did, I set that up."

As well as putting Britney in contact with those who could help her end her conservatorship – which gave her father (and some others) the legal right to oversee decisions about the her estate and health – Jamie-Lynn claims to have liaised with her legal team directly.

"I even spoke to her previous legal team and that did not end well in my favour," she said. "I did take the steps to help, but how many times can I take the steps, you know… she has to walk through the door."

During her interview, she also denied claims that she had played a part in controlling Britney's finances during the conservatorship. "There was no, like, me overseeing funds or something like that, and if that was it was a misunderstanding, but either way, I took no steps to be a part of it."

As for why their relationship has deteriorated, despite the conservatorship being terminated at the end of last year, the Zoey 101 star pointed out that: "That love is still there 100 per cent. I love my sister. I've only ever loved and supported her and done what's right by her and she knows that so I don’t know why we're in this position right now."

Last year, Britney unfollowed her sister on Instagram and called Jamie-Lynn out for performing her songs at an event: "I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes!!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply!!!!"

According to the LA Times, she later shared a screenshot of a quote which read: "Never forget who ignored you when you needed them and who helped you before you even had to ask."

Britney is yet to respond to Jamie-Lynn's latest comments.
