It was a special weekend for Kate Middleton and her family as the duchess' younger brother James got married in the south of France.

James and his bride-to-be Alizée Thevenet had previously kept details of their big day under wraps, but after saying 'I do' on Saturday, they're now opening up about the secret nuptials. And it sounds like it was a dream day.

Entrepreneur and animal lover James (sidenote: seriously, if you love dogs, James' Insta is the place for you) shared a gorgeous snap of himself and Alizée all dressed up and smiling happily.

He captioned the photo: Mr & Mrs Middleton ❤️ 🇬🇧 🇫🇷" before elaborating on their wedding day.

"Yesterday I married the love of my life surrounded by family, friends and of course a few dogs in the beautiful village or Bormes-les-Mimosas. Words cannot describe how happy I am," James wrote.

Because James hasn't given much else away about his special day, it's not known who exactly was in attendance, but his caption makes clear that family was a big part of proceedings and it's thought that Kate Middleton and Prince William might well have been there with their kids, George, Charlotte and Louis.

It would make perfect sense, as Kate, her brother James and their sister Pippa grew up in a close knit family. James and Pippa were in attendance at Kate's royal wedding in 2011, while Kate and James celebrated Pippa's big day in 2017.

James met financial expert Alizée in 2018 and credits one of his pet dogs, Ella, for introducing them.

"The two of us (Ella and me) were at the South Kensington Club in Chelsea. Ella was lying at my feet under the table; realising she might want some water, I trusted her to take herself over to the water bowl across the terrace," James wrote in The Telegraph earlier this year.

"However, she made a beeline for Alizée. Rather embarrassed, I went over to apologise and bring Ella back, but Alizée thought I was the waiter and ordered her drink while continuing to stroke Ella, who at this point was on her back lapping up the attention.

"Little did I know, but I had just met my future wife, all thanks to Ella. If I hadn't trusted Ella, I wouldn't have brought her to the South Kensington Club and she wouldn't have been able to say hi to the woman who became my fiancée."

The rest, as they say, is history. Congratulations to the happy couple!
