James Maddison has insisted “there is more to come” as he aims to secure Leicester a place in the Europa League knockout phase, after revealing his sadness over the death of Diego Maradona.

Maddison is fully focused on guiding Leicester to their fourth successive win in European competition and staking a claim to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The £21 million attacking midfielder missed the end of last season after hip surgery and completed his first full 90 minutes in the Premier League since June at Liverpool on Sunday.

Ahead of Leicester’s rematch with Sporting Braga on Thursday night, Maddison is convinced he can still take his game to another level.

“I’m my own biggest critic so I’ll never say I’m at 100 percent. I’m definitely fitter but there is more to come from me,” he said.

“I want to be scoring goals and getting assists to get my numbers up, as always. The team is doing well, which is always a positive, and I’ll just keep trying to play to the highest level I possibly can.

“There are definitely still gears up to go and that’s me, I’m hard on myself. I watch the games back and get frustrated at myself sometimes at some things I do, and also be happy with other stuff I do.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be fully satisfied with my form because of the type of person I am but I’ll keep trying to produce quality moments as regularly as I can.”

Maddison was given the tragic news about Diego Maradona’s death shortly before the press conference in Braga and admitted the Argentina legend’s passing will be felt around the world.

“It’s a very sad day for the world of football. I’m a football lover and growing up he was such an influential figure to watch back on the clips, especially in his prime like the 1986 World Cup,” he said

“My dad is a graphic designer and currently working on an opus based on Diego Maradona. We’ve been having lots of conversations about him recently and watching lots of footage.

“He’s one of the players I love watching so rest in peace, Diego.”

Leicester will all but secure top spot and a place in next year’s knockout stages with a win over Braga, three weeks after the 4-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.
