James Charles fans have quite had a confusing week. First, Charles posted a picture on his Instagram Story in which he appeared to be completely bald, and then he followed up by sharing a picture of himself in a staged pregnancy photoshoot, all to promote a new YouTube video. Now, Charles is facing backlash from fans who think the stunt was insensitive.

The post which appeared on Charles' Instagram over the weekend shows him naked, surrounded by flowers and cradling a pronounced baby bump. The picture was to promote his latest YouTube video, 24 hours being pregnant, in which Charles tries to see what it's like to be pregnant, by wearing a fake baby bump for 24 hours.

Alongside the video, which has garnered almost 6.5m likes in just two days, Charles wrote:

"HI SISTERS! In today's video, I'm trying something I'll never get to experience, being pregnant! My best friend Laura is pregnant with her second baby so she challenged me to be pregnant for 24 hours to see if I was strong enough to go through what she does! 💪🏼 I hope you enjoy the video."

However, the video has been met with backlash from some fans who found the video insensitive to women who struggle to get pregnant or those who have suffered with difficult pregnancies.

One follower responded to his tweet about the video saying, "To pretend to be pregnant when there is women who cannot 😒 😒."

While some fans weren't happy that a member of his team (off camera) describes his pregnancy shoot at "very Halsey" since Halsey has spoken out about her long and painful struggle to conceive due to her endometriosis. Halsey, who announced her pregnancy at the end of January, wrote about her difficult journey in the notes for her album Manic.

Taking to Twitter to express their opinion on Charles' video, one follower tweeted, "halsey literally had endometriosis. for him or his team to say 'very halsey' while he's taking FAKE pregnancy photos is f***ing disgusting and it mocks everything that she's been through."

However, others were quick to defend Charles, pointing out that at the beginning of the video he says he will be donating a portion of the proceeds to "two different charities helping women through pregnancy complications."

Other fans also brought up the disclaimer at the beginning of the video in which Charles says that the video is "not being made in any way, shape or form to make fun of or make light of pregnancies and the sensitivities and the complications that come around it. It's obviously such a beautiful, beautiful thing that women go through with their bodies and it takes a whole lot of strength as well... this is just a light-hearted video to see if I can last for 24 hours experiencing some of the challenges that are even possible for me to experience."
