After Love Island contestants and viewers alike questioned whether Jake Cornish was putting on an act for the cameras, his dad has spoken out about the claims.

The 24-year-old from Weston-super-Mare has been centre of attention this week, after Liberty Poole questioned whether some of his actions were faked to make good television.

After one particular scene, which saw Jake stopping Liberty from running to hug Kaz Kamwi, Lib said, "I know you say sometimes, like, 'We are on a TV show', but at the same time, what makes it good is just you being yourself, do you know what I mean?"

Now, Jake's dad Mark has spoken out to shut down any rumours that the contestant is faking his emotions, insisting there's no game plan for the cameras. "What you see on telly is Jake," he told Bristol Live.

"There is no motive. He is genuine but he speaks before he thinks, so when you see him on the telly saying things, it’s because it’s coming from his heart and he’s just a nice lad."

Jake's dad continued, "The worst thing about it for us is seeing the vile comments, mainly from keyboard warriors who don’t understand Jake.

"They just see him on the telly and think that he’s in it for the money or he’s a bit of a, you know, bit of a snake and you know, I’m not being horrible to Jake but he’s not intelligent enough to have a game plan!"

So there you go.

Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVHub at 9pm.
