Love Island's Jake Cornish has responded to criticism of his behaviour towards Liberty Poole, after the pair were coupled up from day one of the show.

In case you need a recap, Jake and Liberty were the OG Love Island couple of 2021. They were the first couple to go official in the villa, and also said 'I love you' during their ~journey~.

But things didn't work out for the pair, when Liberty began to question whether Jake was playing up for the camera, and if they were actually compatible in their relationship. Eventually, they decided to leave the villa as friends.

Since then, Liberty has spoken out about why things didn't work out, telling The Sun, "I do actually think his feelings were genuine. I think that the connection was genuine, but things went sour. But I do think he genuinely liked me. But I just was questioning whether obviously he loved me the way I loved him."

Now, after being absent from the Love Island Reunion, Jake has spoken out about the criticism he received from viewers. During a fan Q&A, someone asked, "[It was] well unfair the way the public reacted to you on the show. What are your thoughts on it?"

He replied, "If people knew what was said that wasn't aired, I think people would believe differently."

Whether Jake is insinuating he and Liberty had extra chats in the villa, or there was a moment during their pre-recorded reunion chat, we're not sure.
