Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger’s daughter Ireland has told of the frightening experience which saw her punched in the face by a mugger.

The 24-year-old model took to social media to post a photo of the bruises she received from a "desperate" woman who was “high out of her mind”.

Ireland said she considered herself “lucky” thanks to witnesses who came to her aid.

She said on Instagram: “Yesterday in the late afternoon, I was attacked by a woman who was high out of her mind on drugs and desperate for cash.

“She decked me in my face in a parking lot and took my belongings and jumped in a getaway car while her husband took off. All was sorted with the police and she was arrested.

“Luckily I had witnesses and got assisted really quickly. The cops told me this is happening frequently because people are desperate for money right now due to Coronavirus and people being out of work.

"There is a lot of theft and muggings going down. Posting this to remind everyone to be really careful and watch your surroundings. These are really difficult times and we need to look out for one another.”

Baldwin and Basinger married in 1993, with Ireland arriving two years later. The couple separated in 2000 before divorcing in 2002.

The split was acrimonious, and Baldwin authored a book, A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce, accusing Basinger of making it difficult for him to be a parent to their daughter.

Ireland went on to make an appearance on the Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin in 2019, joining stars such as Robert De Niro and Caitlyn Jenner in mocking the actor.

Taking to the stage as her dad watched, Ireland poked fun at his reputation.

“A lot of people only know my dad as an angry guy but he’s more than some lunatic who loses his temper, he also loses Emmys and Oscars, and custody of his first born child.”
