Setting the internet alight and sustaining the momentum is no mean feat. But for Pat McGrath, whose porcelain doll make-up went viral during Maison Margiela's haute couture show in Paris, the world is still talking about the make-up artist's otherworldly 'glass skin' nearly a year on.

The reason why? It's just been announced that the famed MUA is launching a new product this week - the Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Artistry Mask - which plays on the luminosity that sparked the frenzy and saw models walking the runway with a sheen-like glow before peeling off their masks post-show.

'Glass Skin 001 is my love letter to the Maison Margiela runway,' shares Pat McGrath. 'This formula captures the brilliance of that iconic moment, delivering hyper-shiny, lacquered radiance and an ethereal glow in minutes. It’s beauty reimagined for make-up lovers everywhere,' she adds.

While Redditers were convinced that the new formula McGrath was teasing last year would sit in the make-up category (an illuminator or highlighter, they speculated), this new formula is in fact skincare-meets-make-up – a mask that delivers the refulgent glow that stole the limelight during the Maison Margiela show with radiance-enhancing benefits thereafter.

Aside from recreating next-level luminosity (see: the influx of videos beginning to surface on TikTok), the mask is more than just a means for reaching virality. While there is no denying that McGrath's launch is here to create a talking point, it does come with added skincare benefits. It's infused with glycerin, rose flower water, and allantoin to help smooth and revitalise your skin but can also be used on the high points of the cheeks to add a futuristic gleam to your make-up.

While the world may not have guessed what McGrath was planning post-show, the make-up artist is not the first to use the runway as a platform to introduce beauty innovation. Just last year, the runway became a veritable beauty playground - there was Balmain's SS25 show which saw models holding brand-new perfume bottles instead of handbags, Victoria Beckham creating champagne cocktails scented like the new VBB fragrance and Patrick Ta teasing a brand-new liquid foundation. As McGrath and others are proving, a captivated audience and new-season collection are just how to create a major beauty moment.

The new Skin Fetish: Glass 001 Artistry Mask mask launches on the Pat McGrath website on 30 January.
