Instagram’s best last-minute DIY Halloween costumes

From creepy mermaids to Starbucks cups - if you’ve just received a last-minute Halloween party invite, these easy DIY Halloween costumes from Instagram will give you serious inspiration.

Pop on your most flattering party dress and a pair of flesh coloured tights. Cut a hole in the leg of your tights and surround the hole with fake blood, then draw some mermaid scales on your exposed skin with face paints or coloured eyeliners. Now you’re a secret mermaid with a human skin!

Put on a white t-shirt and tie a red and white striped scarf around your waist, or DIY red and white striped paper, then stick some scrunched up white and yellow paper balls onto your t-shirt and onto a hairband. You’ll look good enough to eat.

If you’re not familiar with Netflix’s Stranger Things, where have you been?! Do yourself up like Winona Rider’s house by drawing some leaves and scrawling the alphabet on a t-shirt, then wrapping some battery-operated fairy lights around yourself. You’ll be so pop culture!

All you need for this is a white t-shirt, a black and green sharpie and all of five minutes. Turn yourself into a Starbucks cup, but don’t forget to write your name on it too!

How would you like to be a bunch of grapes? Well you can! All with pack of purple balloons and a lot of puffs.

Any costume where you can wear your own clothes will be a winner for most people. Cut an old white bed sheet into a large web shape, with a hole in the middle for your head. Then, get out a black marker or some black paint and draw on the lines of the web, plus a cheeky little spider. Voila!

The trend for turning yourself into a real life Snapchat filter is everywhere at the moment, but if you don’t have the makeup skills to create the look on your own skin, just print out the ears, the nose and the long tongue and stick them on instead.

Let’s face it, how many of us actually have time to properly plan and source a Halloween costume? If you’re like me, you’ll be scrambling around the day before, trying to fashion something semi-acceptable out of a bin bag and some Sellotape. That, or you’ll end up spending a fortune in a fancy dress shop. Do not fear however, as here are some epic, but incredibly easy, last-minute DIY Halloween costumes to make you look like you have your life in order…
