Strictly Come Dancing star and comedian Chris McCausland is among the bookies' favourite to win this year's series.

Paired with Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell, the comedian from Liverpool is the first blind contestant in the show's history, after he lost his sight 20 years ago due to retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disease.

Chris was a web designer until his eyesight began to fail him and he had a go at stand-up comedy. He is well-known for starring in hit comedy panel shows like Have I Got News For You and popular soap operas like EastEnders.

But away from television screens, what sort of life does Chris live? We take a look at his net worth, family life and sweet encouragement he revealed from his family about Strictly Come Dancing.

Chris McCausland is happily married to his wife Patricia and they share an 11-year-old daughter called Sophie. The couple met in 2005 when Chris was performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Patricia was filming a documentary there.

"We spent a lot of time together when the camera wasn't running, socialising, going out and doing things, and we just had a lot of fun," he said. Chris said Patricia was "full of energy" and took him out of his comfort zone, while he made her laugh and was "almost this calming presence in her life that she was attracted to".

Patricia, who is from Brazil, brings "chaos" into their relationship, Chris previously said. "We were very opposite," he told Gyles Brandreth on his podcast Rosebud. "She comes across as very British but she's Brazilian, she came across when she was five or six. Her life is chaos in the way that Brazilian people are chaos.

"It's a natural attribute of their being that they are very proud of - they bring chaos to any room.

"The number of times she'll be talking in Portuguese to her mum and then I'll say to her: 'Are you okay? What happened there?'.

"It sounds like they had the most horrific argument and they're just talking about what they're going to do that day."

Chris McCausland recently spoke to The Guardian about how the birth of his daughter Sophie, now 11, changed his outlook on life.

He told the publication: "I've maybe been comfortable in my own skin and happy to be me." Aside from getting older, Chris also attributes his confidence boost to the birth of his daughter.

"I think that really changes your outlook on life and yourself," he explained. "Being a dad, you can't just decide to find something else to do. I worried about it a lot, and there's a lot of slack that my wife picks up, a lot of the logistical stuff."

Chris also revealed that both he and his 11-year-old daughter were initially petrified when he accepted the Strictly challenge, but now she's his biggest supporter, urging him to take home the win.

Reflecting on his journey, he said: "The fear was immense. I said no to this a few times because it was terrifying.

"I like a challenge, I like new things, I like being out of my comfort zone, but I need to know that I can do good and represent myself and represent other people well. There was a huge doubt about that."
