Inside No. 9 announces Mathew Horne and Amanda Abbington for new guest cast

Mathew Horne and Amanda Abbington have been confirmed for the guest cast of Inside No. 9's new series.

The BBC dark comedy anthology is known for introducing big-name stars in each single-episode story, appearing alongside creators Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith who appear in each one.

Series eight is set to air this spring and the new roll call of guest stars names Gavin and Stacey star Horne, and Sherlock's Abbington as two of the actors to look out for.

The five new episodes will also feature stage and screen star Anita Dobson, Sex Education and Game Of Thrones actor Samantha Spiro, My Mad Fat Diary’s Claire Rushbrook, People Just Do Nothing’s Asim Chaudhry and stage actress Frances Barber.

Others joining the series eight cast include House Of The Dragon’s Phil Daniels, British comedy veteran Robin Askwith and Batman’s Leon Herbert.

Viewers last saw an Inside No. 9 instalment at Christmas, with the creepy festive tale The Bones Of St Nicholas starring Simon Callow and Shobna Gulati.

A statement from Shearsmith and Pemberton said: "We are thrilled to invite viewers inside a new set of funny and frightening number 9s; take your shoes off, make yourself at home and switch your devices to do not disturb. Well it might work…"

Gregor Sharp, commissioning editor at the BBC, said: "Reece and Steve are masters of their craft and it’s a delight to see such a brilliant line-up of guest stars joining them for another series of perfectly formed dark comedy masterpieces."

The series, which often features grisly tales and murder mysteries, began in 2014 and Pemberton and Shearsmith have confirmed that they will also make a ninth series.

Previous guest stars have included Gemma Arterton, Helen McCrory, Jack Whitehall, Sheridan Smith, Alison Steadman, Sophie Okonedo, Derek Jacobi, Jason Watkins, Maxine Peake, Paterson Joseph, Mark Gatiss and Keeley Hawes.

Inside No. 9 will return to BBC Two this spring.
