The first trailer for Pixar's The Incredibles 2 has been released, offering fans their first look at what the superpowered Parr family have been up to since the events of 2004's box-office smash The Incredibles.

The new animated feature brings back the central family of superheroes, Mr Incredible (voiced by Craig T Nelson, Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack.

It will also introducing two new characters played by Catherine Keener and Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk.

Brad Bird returns as both writer and director for the new film, and will also be lending his voice to Edna Mode, the diminutive super-fashion designer.

Reviewing the original film, Telegraph critic Sukhdev Sandhu wrote: "It rattles along, studded with loud, primary-coloured scenes, full of wit and drama," adding that "emotionally the movie is far richer than previous Pixar hits such as Toy Story and Monsters, Inc."

It was already known that Hunter’s Elastigirl would be the focus of the sequel.

"Are we leaving the world to the men? I don't think so!"

And so, as the new trailer shows, Bob (Mr Incredible) is left to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life, giving him an opportunity to bond with his younger son, Jack-Jack, whose superpowers are emerging - much to his father's surprise.

The Incredibles 2 is released in the US from June 15, and in UK cinemas from July 13
