'I'm sure I bought weed off him!' The stars who went to school together

The chances of becoming famous in the first place are pretty slim. But what are the chances that some of the biggest stars in Hollywood went to the same school? Take a look through to see which celebrities forged a friendship in the classroom and which ones ignored each other in the hallway.

Kerry Washington and Gwyneth Paltrow both attened Spence School in New York City and the 'Scandal' actress once explained that while she and the Goop founder were a couple of years apart in age, she still remebers performing in a school version of Shakespeare with her fellow actress and Goop founder. Kerry said: "She was a senior when I was in junior high school. Even back then, she was Gwyneth Paltrow. We actually did one play together — because she was the queen, of course, in 'Midsummer Night’s Dream', and I was one of the fairies. The middle schoolers were allowed to audition for the fairies. So we had one amazing show together."

The 'Empire State of Mind' hitmaker - who is now married to pop superstar Beyonce - attended George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education High School in downtown Brooklyn with fellow rap star Busta. Busta - whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith, Jr - revealed in 2020 that Jay, who was known as Shawn Carter in his high school days, once challenged him to a rap battle. He said: "I was just starting to figure out how to master my fascination with the speed rap. He was already on it. He was doin’ it at an incredible level of skillset. And was displayin’ that s*** like — water spillin’ all over the place. Just takin’ shape and form whatever way he felt like it ‘cause he had been on his s*** with it."

'Fleabag' creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge became best friends when attending prestigious drama school Royal Academy of Dramatic Art together. Phoebe later cast Sian in her hit BBC series and Sian explained that she "owes everything" to PWB. She said: "I was very studious. I’d been rejected twice previously so I really wanted it. I was focused on learning everything. Our friendship and support of one another’s pursuits remained steady. We have supported each other through our ups and downs. I really do owe her everything. And I’m really enjoying reaping the rewards and riding on her coattails."

'Superbad' star Jonah met future Maroon 5 frontman Adam atjunior high and the pair used to carpool to school together.. The pair became best friends and years later Jonah officatred Adam's wedding to model Behati Prinsloo. Jonah said: "The joke I wrote was like, ‘Adam and I grew up together. It’s so nice to see all the people we grew up skateboarding with ― like Gene, Stevie Nicks and Robert Downey Jr. I was kind of like giving him s*** because he had really famous people at his wedding."

Former 'Smash' star and musical theatre actress Katharine McPhee was actually in middle school when Meghan, Duchess of Sussex - who was known as Meghan Markle before marrying Prince Harry and becoming part of the British Royal Family - was in high school but her older sister was in Meghan's class and Kat would star in amateur musicals with the future royal. She said: "I went to school with Meghan Markle. I was in middle school when she was in high school.I did a couple of shows with her but I was younger and wasn't allowed to be in the more major roles with shows, I did musicals with her."

'Almost Famous' star Kate Hudson attended Crossroads School in Santa Monica with future 'Lord of the Rings' actress Liv and years later co-starred in comedy movie 'Dr. T & the Women' where they shared an on-screen kiss. The pair have remained friends since and often post together on social media, with Liv later joking: "Kate plays a woman who is about to get married and she's completely in love with me. We were always so shy about the kissing but in retrospect we were like, 'We so should have just totally made out and tongued each other'. But we never did, we were just too scared to do it."

The 'Good Will Hunting' stars actually grew up just two streets away from each other in Massachusetts and went on to attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin high school together. In 2016, Matt reflected: "I've known him for 35 years, and we grew up together. We were both in love with the same thing — acting and filmmaking. I think we fed on each other’s obsession during really formative, important years and that bonded us for life."

'Les Miserables' actor Eddie attended Eton College with William, Duke of Cambridge but later admitted he felt "really sorry" for the royal during their time together at the prestiguous school when they played rugby together. He said: "I always felt a bit sorry for him because basically any school you played, all they wanted to do was tackle Prince William and they could say, 'I tackled Prince William."

Former 'Home and Away' actress attended North Sydney Girls' High School in her native Australia with future Academy Award-winner and 'Eyes Wide Shut' star Nicole during their youth. Nicole later said: "We have a strong respect and love for one another. We've known each other since we were teenagers."

Hollywood star Cameron Diaz - who is due to make a return to acting after seven years in retirement - attended the Long Beach Polytechnic High School with 'Bad Decisions' hitmaker, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.. The 'Charlie's Angels' actress explained that he was in the year above and joked that she was sure she had "bought weed" from her future fellow star at one point. She said: "We went to high school together. He was a year older than me and you know, I remember him there. There were a lot of kids in our school, there’s like 3,500 kids, but I remember him, he was very tall and skinny, wore lots of ponytails. Pretty sure I bought weed from him. I had to have!" Snoop later quipped: "She was fly and she was hip!"
