I'm a food and drink writer and these are the best things I've tried
With so many food and drink product launches every single month, we know it can be an overwhelming experience trying to find a food product that is unique and not to mention delicious, that's also worth spending your money on.
This is where our senior food and drink writer, Mel Giandzi steps in. As our resident foodie she gets, without fail, hundreds of emails every month about the newest products that have launched. Not everything makes the cut, so the following list has been carefully recommended as her top favourites for this month.
The following items have really blown her away and are products she will be recommending to anyone who listens and ones she'll also be adding into her basket to purchase again this month.
Expect top food, drink and cookbook recommendations, plus, her newest kitchenware item, gadget or appliance obsession, a hero ingredient and food inspiration for future meals.
She’ll be updating this page monthly, so keep it bookmarked to find out what the best products she tries next month are...
The best products our food writer tried this month:
Build Your Own Christmas Charcuter-tree
The name alone deserves an award, but in all seriousness, this self build spectacle from M&S was literally the talk of the town at my Christmas party on the weekend. For £25 you get everything you need to display this fun edible tower - that's included plenty of salami, pitted olives, cubed cheese (and one for the star top) and loads of toothpicks, as well as the cardboard cone and guide! Delicious little morsels!
Classic Honey Mustard Dressing, 250ml
I first spotted this brand a few months ago because of it's bright packaging and unique bottle shape so immediately hard to try it. The brand has two flavours: Dijon (honey mustard) and Miso (honey and sesame). Both are banging but the Dijon is more versatile. Perfect through salad of course, but really good to marinate chicken and mix through a potato salad. Sweet, tart and tangy!
Ribbed Glass Trifle Bowl
This gorgeous ribbed glass trifle bowl was exactly what I was looking for when I recently made our Chocolate Brownie Trifle. It's large enough for a good amount of layers and looks super chic and modern with its ribbed effect. I'm definitely making a layered tiramisu in this next!
Almond Croissant Coffee Pods
Nespresso's latest festive range features this divine almond croissant coffee pod and if you're a sucker for a flavoured coffee like me, you will love this limited-edition flavour. It's creamy and decadent, and tastes of marzipan and has distinct buttery, yeasty notes. I hope they consider making this part of the permanent collection because I want to drink it forever..
Pistachio & Almond Tartufi, 208g
I know, I know, i'm very late to the game with trying these (clearly i've been living under a rock) but I had a serious ice cream craving the other night and this was my pick. I am so glad I purchased them as they are very very good. Like really good. Soft pistachio crumbs coat the outside of an ice cream 'bomb', if you will. Pistachio gelato hides in the centre and is then wrapped in a layer of creamy almond gelato. I could really go for one right now..
Shiraume Umeshu Plum Infused Sake, 50cl
Think you don't like sake? Think again! This delicious bottle is plum infused and tastes just like if a bottle of oloroso sherry and plum liqueur had a baby, but with a slightly rice-ness to it (in a great way). It is nutty, sweet, plummy and works well served neat over ice, or turned into a sake-tini for a fun cocktail.
Irresistible Camembert & Black Garlic Crisps
I've said it before and i'll say it again, Co-op make THE best crisps! This Christmas they have released a very moreish camembert and black garlic crisps and they are actually dangerous. Like, I could eat an entire bag in one sitting. Slightly cheesy, with a definite tang from the black garlic.
Orancello
You know limoncello, but have you heard of an orange version? Well let me introduce you to Rudy's homemade orancello! I personally find limoncello can be a little too much like... cleaning products, but this definitely not that! Think fresh orange peel, with a really intense and ripe flavour. Perfect ice cold after dinner, or turned into a spritz. Sadly only available to purchase in stores, but I promise you it's worth the trek.
