'I'm a doctor - stop wasting your money on this beauty product that simply doesn't work'
Brands are always advertising their newest lotions and potions that claim to clear your skin of all concerns, but is this really true? Many products have been tried and tested to enhance your natural beauty, and while some of them can do wonders for some people, it does not mean they will work for all.
One doctor is pleading for people to save their pennies on a certain beauty product that won't fix a specific beauty concern - dark undereye circles. Most people will have dark circles under their eyes, which can be caused by poor sleep, stress, staring at screens for too long, and genetics, as well as from smoking and alcohol consumption.
Some people's dark circles are more noticeable than others, but generally there is nothing wrong with having dark circles under your eyes. However, many of us feel like they drag our faces down and would like to minimise their impact on the rest of our facial features.

Surrey Live reported that eye cream is the first port of call for many of us, but Dr Ree Adel is wanting people to proceed with caution. On TikTok, where she has gained a wide following by offering her insights and tips on a range of skincare concerns, Dr Ree shared a video on the reality of dark undereye circles, and why sometimes using no eye cream at all can be the best solution.
In the clip she says: "I hate to be the one to tell you this but if you have dark circles and you think an eye cream alone is going to fix that, it’s not." She elaborates that this video is aimed towards people with "hereditary dark undereyes". This is when a relative in your family, like a parent or grandparent, also deals with the same dark circles, making it a genetic problem.
She explains: "Don’t get me wrong, eye creams can somewhat help, especially if they’ve got things like retinol, SPF or vitamin C in them. However, the only real solution for genetic dark circles is going to be something like lasers or PRP."
PRP - Platelet-rich plasma – is a treatment which uses a patient’s own blood to help heal injuries and other conditions. It’s often used as a treatment for the whole face, where it’s sometimes called the “vampire facial”.
She finishes by saying: "It’s going to need a combination of things so if you are spending hundreds of pounds on eye creams hoping that they will fix everything, they won’t."
The viral clip has been viewed 184,000 times at the time of writing, with many people taking to the comments to ask further questions. One asked what advice Dr Ree had for lasers.
She replied saying: "Fraxel laser is a great option!" and when asked which was better, laser or PRP, she recommended: "They’re usually needed in combination!"
One person shared their own experience trying PRP: “I will never do PRP again. The swelling was mortifying, I couldn’t look in the mirror and it takes several treatments to see results. I work full time and don’t have the time to look that crazy”.
Another asked: "What if they aren't genetic?" She responded saying: "Treatment would depend on the type of dark circles, i.e. if they are vascular, due to hollow eyes, pigmentation etc."
