I'm a Celebrity... Get Out of Here! star Scarlette Douglas has responded to viewers calling out the show after she and Charlene White were the first two stars evicted.

Many viewers have criticised the series after White and Douglas, two Black women, were the first to be evicted from the camp this series.

When Douglas was evicted, Babatúndé Aléshé, another Black contestant, was also in the bottom two, and while the voting system works on a 'vote to save' basis, it can be argued that voters are unfairly overlooking Black stars on the series in favour of more divisive contestants such as Matt Hancock and Boy George.

Similarly, last year Kadeena Cox, Snoochie Shy and Naughty Boy – three contestants of colour – were among the early evictions.

Responding to the accusations, Douglas told The Sun: "I've always come in here as an underdog. I've got the least profile of anybody else, you know, not everybody knows who I am. Hopefully they do now!"

She continued: "So I was never going to get the most votes. You know, even if you're just looking at something like Instagram, I always have the least amount of followers.

"If I go by something like that. I'm not going to get all the votes. So for me, all I could have done in the jungle was do my best and hope that people liked me and hoped that people voted for me."

Douglas went on to say that "people aren't voting for me to leave", adding: "They're voting for who their favourites are and if I'm not their favourite there's nothing I can do about that. I just have to be true to me.

"Be authentic and just enjoy the experience and when my time comes, my time comes wherever it is. I'm the second out and it would have been great to get a lot further but that didn't happen.

“I can't take it in a negative way, I have to take it positively because I've had an amazing experience, I've met some incredible people and take from that what you will."

I'm a Celebrity airs nightly on ITV1 and ITVX.
