I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here contestant Anne Hegerty got the support of both her camp-mates and viewers as she broke down during her first night in the jungle.

Anne, star of ITV gameshow The Chase, and also known as The Governess, has Asperger’s, and admitted that on her arrival at the camp that there would be many things that could become a ‘source of stress’ around her.

She eventually broke down, telling her other camp-mates: “I’m just really, really close to saying I can’t do this.”

As she did, Inbetweeners star Emily Atack and X Factor singer Fleur East were among those comforting her.

“I do respond well to structure. I think it will be quite structured in there. I will understand, ‘at this time I have to fetch wood and water’, doing that will make sense,” she had said earlier.

“But being surrounded by people I can’t get away from, or those who talk all the time, can be a source of stress.”

The National Autistic Society – Asperger’s is among the syndromes on the Autism spectrum – were among the first to offer their support, tweeting:

Professional rugby ref Alex Lambe also pitched in, adding that Anne had supported him in the past too.

Viewers, including X Factor and Big Brother star Rylan Clarke, also offered support, as did those with Asperger’s and parents of children with Asperger’s.

Stay strong, Anne!
