I'm A Celebrity 2021 doesn't start until Sunday, but the camp's first row could already be brewing as half of the contestants have said they want to be cook.

Camp cook is a key role in every series to lift the contestants' spirits, give them energy for the trials ahead and make the most of any hard-won ingredients.

In previous years, it has also been the source of tension as celebrities have tried to chip in with views on how the cooking should be done while the chef is working - and it looks as though too many cooks could spoil the broth at the castle this year.

Of the 10 celebrities named for the new series, five said that they wanted to be camp cook and claimed to have cooking credentials that would rival the others.

A clear choice to take on the role first is Kadeena Cox, who recently won this year's Celebrity MasterChef.

The Paralympian said: "It would be cool to be the chef in the castle but at the same time, there will be a lot of pressure to make the food taste good."

Louise Minchin (ITV)

Former BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin also put herself forward as a good choice for similar reasons.

She said: "I got to the finals on MasterChef and I am not a big fan of being hungry. I will try to make our food more edible when it turns up."

Minchin and Cox will have competition from broadcaster Richard Madeley, who offered himself as cook when asked what his camp role would be.

They aren't the only keen cooks, though - music producer Naughty Boy is famed for his love of cooking and also mentioned he wanted to take on the chef's duties.

And French footballer David Ginola insisted: "I will be the chef in the camp. I enjoy cooking at home and I will be hoping to add some garlic and rosemary to the food."

Ginola added: "Rice and beans is perfect for me as I have put on six kilos over the past three months and I think it will be interesting to see if I can lose six kilos in three weeks."

It sounds as though the other campmates will be spoiled for choice when it comes to mealtimes.
