IKEA has launched three collections as part of its new Transitions range — Vivid Wonderland, Glorious Green and Simple Serenity. Instead of regularly replacing items around the home, the Swedish retailer is encouraging households to be more sustainable with their purchases, choosing longer-lasting items that can be used over and over again.

"Our ambition is to create more affordable and easily accessible solutions to help people live more sustainably," the team at IKEA say. "Our commitment is to enable more than one billion people to live a better everyday life, striving to become a fully circular and climate positive business by 2030."

According to the 2022 IKEA Life at Home Report, more people agree that accessing green space is important for maintaining their mental wellbeing. Meanwhile, others explain that serene green at home helps to evoke a sense of calm.

"People have increasingly felt the desire to bring nature into their homes," Clotilde Passalacqua, Interior Design Manager at IKEA UK and Ireland says. "Whether breathing new life into a corner with a leafy houseplant or adding a succulent to a side table, nature helps to add visual calmness to a room and support a relaxed life at home."

It's time to embrace a soothing natural palette in your home. IKEA's report found that over 50% of people globally believe the most important aspect of an ideal home is the ability to unwind, while people are increasingly forging nights out for time at home.

For 2023, it's all about keeping things simple. Clotilde explains: "By adding subtle accents through accessories, you can create a powerful yet soothing makeover. To evoke serenity in the home, try implementing one or two colours as a base and then adding crisp, sleek lines for an element of modernity."

"Introducing small additions, such as the DEJSA table lamp (pictured) can evoke a more ambient feel and enhance the sense of self-soothing that many are looking for in their homes,' continues Clotilde.

Colour is key for spring/summer 2023. Whether it's your bedroom or living room, the summer months are all about embracing a vivid colour scheme of sunshine yellows, bright reds, powder pinks and burnt oranges.

"Consider materials as well as colour tones when styling each room," adds Clotilde. "Fresh cotton-blends pair well with rich velvets and accents of wood, with touches of textured glass completing this transition."

Our homes are becoming increasingly smart, blending function with style. A hero product for this season is the orange VARMBLIXT wall lamp, which has been designed by the acclaimed designer Sabine Marcelis. Shaped like a doughnut, it will add a burst of fun to your space.

According to IKEA, one key trend for the season ahead is utilising a combination of soft and earthy textiles. Whether you choose scatter cushions or green accessories, more of us are expected to focus on bringing the outside in.
