Idris Elba is set to become an author - as a range of kids books written by the actor has just been announced.

The actor, director and DJ is adding writer to his many talents, and will bring out picture books and fiction in 2022 after signing a deal with Harpercollins.

While no plot details of the books have been released just yet, Idris says the tales have been inspired by his daughter Isan, who is 19.

Idris has been working on the concept of a character and imagined world with his writing partner Robyn Charteris, who has previously written for BBC, Channel 4 and the Jim Henson company on things like The Hoobs and Thomas The Tank Engine - so it all bodes well for Idris’ new project.

“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring stories inspired by my daughter to life with my incredible partner Robyn Charteris, and the powerhouse team at HarperCollins," said Idris.

Publisher Ann-Janine Murtagh added, "Idris Elba is one of the most iconic and multi-talented creatives of his generation and I am delighted that he is joining the HarperCollins Children's Books list.

"From the outset, Idris had a very clear vision of the characters and stories he has imagined, and is passionate about creating books that will appeal to all children.

"I feel privileged that Idris has entrusted us to bring his stories to life and I cannot wait to share them with children across the globe."

Bring on 2022!
