Hugh and Deborra-lee said in a statement Friday announcing their split, “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth"
In photographs taken on Saturday, the Deadpool 3 actor, 54, who was not wearing his wedding ring, could be seen walking down the street wearing dark clothes with matching dark sunglasses while holding what appeared to be an iPad.
The photos come one day after the couple shared the news that they are separating after 27 years of marriage. "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” they said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."
The statement continued, "Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."
Deborra-lee had been spotted without her wedding ring days prior to the announcement, according to photos posted by Entertainment Tonight. The actress, 67, was seen getting into a car in N.Y.C. on Tuesday.
The two made several appearances together earlier this year including at Wimbledon in July and the Met Gala on May 1.
On their 27th wedding anniversary in April, the Greatest Showman star posted a loving Instagram tribute to Deborra-lee, writing in part, "I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me."
The Jackmans, who share two kids — Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18 — originally met on the set of the Australian TV series Corelli in 1995, before tying the knot a year later on April 11, 1996.

The actor previously opened up to PEOPLE about his marriage, saying one of the reasons he loved his and Deborra-lee's relationship so much was because they formed their bond before the Wolverine star became famous.
“One of the great pieces of fortune in my career, it started late, but that Deb and I were already set together, a team, madly in love, like literally before it all happened,” he said. “We can kind of see all the ups and downs for what they are. Our priority is our family, and we’re there for each other no matter what.”
He added, “Underneath the surface where it’s real, and where it’s still and where it’s deep, that is the love I have with Deb.”
