Hugh Jackman Shares His Daily Calories as He Bulks up to Play Wolverine Again
Hugh Jackman is in full Wolverine mode right now. The 54-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as the menacing mutant in Deadpool 3, and he's busy eating and exercising to bulk up for the part.
The exercise part has seen him enter into an 'arms' race with co-star Ryan Reynolds, with the pair recently showing off the bicep work they've put in so far. Meanwhile, Jackman has been explaining his diet plan too.
In an interview with ITV's This Morning, Jackman revealed he's shovelling down a whopping 5500 calories everyday to beef up for the role. For mere mortals, that'd be an awful lot of food prep, but thankfully for Jackman that's already taken care of.
‘I don't question anything,’ said Jackman. ‘Food arrives and it's been counted out and it's 600 grams of carbohydrates and it's 270 grams of protein... and a certain amount of fat, I can't remember the grams, and then I have to eat that food for the day.’
Jackman admitted on the show that he's finding it tough to consume so much food each day, not that his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, has any sympathy for him.
‘I can't tell you how many times I'm like, 'Oh babe, I've got to eat again' and my wife is like "Shut up!"’ he laughed.
‘Having me complain about eating? She's like, "Oh poor you, oh you have to have another bite!"’
Still, Jackman's efforts are further proof of the lengths he goes to for the role. The actor recently spoke about steroid use in Hollywood and revealed that his Wolverine bulk ups are totally natty and have been since he started playing the character at the turn of the century. Speaking to journalist Chris Wallace for the HBO show ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace’, Jackman said: ‘I love my job, and I love Wolverine...but I don’t love it that much.’
