Huge TOWIE star enters Love Island villa as celebrity bombshell - leaving Islanders in utter shock

This year's Love Island has gotten off to a dramatic start, with the show's first celebrity bombshell, Joey Essex, entering the villa. The villa has previously had some semi-famous residents including Gemma Owen, the daughter of footballer Michael Owen and Rochelle Humes's sister Sophie Piper.

However, Joey is the first celeb entrant, since the show switched from having a celebrity line-up to a civilian one. Following Joey's arrival, fans quickly took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts, one wrote: "Joey Essex as the first bomshell this season has hit hard!!! #loveisland"

"Okay joey essex walking in was a GAG and a half #loveisland" added another. While a third wrote: "Joey Essex going in as a bombshell is like a fever dream. This series is gonna be chaotic #loveIsland"

Some of Joey's celeb pals and former Love Islanders were also among those left shocked at his arrival. After the announcement was shared on the Love Island Instagram page, Andrew Le Page wrote: "1st episode is usually dead but this year they’ve done bit."

And former Love Island winner Kai Fagan added: "This is MADNESS [laughing emoji] Essex, First dates, Celebs go dating, I’m a Celeb and Now Love Island. This man has COMPLETED reality TV."

The official TOWIE Instagram account quipped: "He looks familiar!?" While forme TOWIE star Demi Sims added: "yes myyyy g get all the girls"

Ahead of the bombshell arrival, the first couples were revealed following a rather savage twist. After welcoming all the newcomers, host Maya Jama split the confused new boys and girls into groups before confirming that they will take part in an important new challenge. "

You’ve already started getting to know each other so you guys have had enough time for first impressions, right?" she said to them.

"First impressions count. Boys and girls, I now want you to rate each other in order of who you think has come across the most like boyfriend and girlfriend material, right down to who has given the least relationship vibes," she added.

Instead of past formats which have seen the islanders step forward for who they fancy or be placed together by a public vote, this time they were asked to organise the boys and girls from most to least on who they think is relationship material.

In a big twist, once the decisions had been made, Maya revealed that each of the Islanders would be coupled up with the person stood opposite them.
