The hottest nail art trends you can do at home

From ombré glitter to aztec designs and 3D gems, we reveal the quick and easy ways to update your talons this season

Nail art is having a moment.

From sepia-toned shots on Instagram to complex designs on Twitter, you only have to search ‘NOTD’ – that’s Nail of the Day – on social media for nail art inspiration.

But not all of us have a manicurist on speed-dial, so we've picked out the best nail trends you can do in the comfort of your own home.

Glitter

If you thought glitter nails were just for Christmas, think again as they can be worn all-year round in style.

Opt for fashion-forward shades of glam purple, emerald green and dazzling silver to ensure your mani matches your spring outfit.

We like Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy, £7.99 as it’s double ended – one end is a dark shade of nail polish and the other is iridescent glitter – and they’re really easy-to-use too.

For a spin on the classic glitter nail, paint your nails white and then apply sparkling polish starting from the cuticle end of your nail for an ombréd effect.

Nail art pens

Nail art wouldn’t be possible without nail art pens, as the brushes on standard size bottles of nail polish are too thick.

For a range of nail art pen shades, including on-trend metallics, we like Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen, £2.99. We’ll be adding intricate designs with the gold coloured one.

If you’re daring to try a bright nail art design for spring, Model’s Own WAH! Nail Art Pen, £3.00, is your best friend because it comes it an array of in-your-face colours.

We’ll be trying this Aztec-printed design that we spotted on Twitter – just have a choice of coloured nail art pens ready and draw precise, zig-zag lines on your talons.

Nail art gems

Perfect for a day-to-night look, jazz up your nails with a beaded or gem accent nail.

Use a matte taupe or minky brown shade on your talons and then create a triangle pattern on your ring finger with gold gems, like Cina Nail Art Dial-a-Gem, £8.99.

The question is, which nail art design should we try first?!
