How To Look Like An Elizabethan Dream This Summer

Summer nights are for many things - eating gelatos on the beach with the one you fell in love with, dancing in a deserted garden with only the light of the moon to pave the way and for me, reading excerpts from Shakespeare in a piazza as people around me go about their evening.

With Shakespeare’s words permeating my nights, looking like an Elizabethan dream during the day has come quite naturally and the fashion world is making it easy for us all to look like we just walked out of the 16th century.

There are so many ways you can look like a dreamy and modern Elizabethan. There are deconstructed high collared blouses which you can wear with denim or silk shorts, your hair up in a messy chignon and your lips stained with a touch of red.

You can wear dresses with V-shaped pleats on the front, a design alluding to the dramatic pleats of the Elizabethans, instead of wearing your usual white summer dress, and frills everywhere — on the sides of your sleeves, on the back of your backless dress or at the front of that sheer blouse to bring a hint of the majestic and the volume the Elizabethans were so enamoured with.

You may have left your Shakespeare books hidden somewhere, along with that unforgettable school uniform and unsharpened pencils.

You may have forgotten the hauntingly beautiful image of Ophelia’s death and the allure of Desdemona but with fashion giving us these Elizabethan moments, looking like a Shakespearean dream has never been more appealing.
