It can be pretty hard to find the motivation to work out sometimes, especially when it?s dark and dreary outside.

Believe it or not, wearing sportswear that makes you look good can also help motivate you to exercise.

It?s actually been scientifically proven that colours can have a psychological effect. According to Julie Standish of the book ?How Not To Wear Black?, specific colours trigger neurological responses in the brain that causes a release of hormones by a gland called the Hypothalamus.

More detailed research shows that warm and brighter colours, like reds and pinks, can cause the feel-good hormone, Dopamine to be released. This improves our mood and also increases our attention span, which aids in our commitment and endurance in exercise!

Apparently the best colours for Yoga and Pilates style workouts are cooler blues and greens, as they help your body to release Oxytocin - which makes you feel calm and relaxed.

So now we know that bright colours will help lift your mood. Layer it up and go for some printed leggings and make sure you?ve got colour in there somewhere, to get you off the sofa and in to the gym.

Remember its workout gear, so you can wear what the hell you want for a change. Style rules do not apply!

I?ve picked out my ideal workout outfit for the lovely cold/windy/rainy climate that is the UK:
