2023 has undeniably been the year of visible underwear on the red carpet. But as we move into the chillier months ahead, it appears that this celebrity trend has gotten a slightly more fall-friendly makeover.

Instead of the usual briefs and G-strings worn beneath sheer maxi skirts and lace pants, stars have begun ditching the cover-up altogether and just stepping out in a pair of hot pants. In fact, this new crop of autumnal shorts are so short they could easily be mistaken for underwear.

While some of these short-shorts definitely fall into the lingerie category, others have been made more outdoors appropriate thanks to fun details like rhinestones and buttons, or more substantial fabrics, like wool and velvet. If you, like these celebrities, aren't ready to let go of summer just yet, consider a few of these styling suggestions to extend the life of your short collection just a little while longer.

And while this Hollywood trend is still relatively new, celebs have already proven that there's no short too short for their liking. The bottoms of the rich and famous are now venturing into straight-up tighty-whities territory, like the Tommy Hilfiger-branded pair Doechii wore to a brunch hosted by the designer during New York Fashion Week.
